Energy Safety Canada: A Unified Platform for Training and Certification
Redesigned Energy Safety Canada’s web experience to improve course discovery, streamline user flows, and align internal teams around a clear digital vision, resulting in stronger engagement and more confident navigation across key user groups.

Energy Safety Canada is the national safety association for Canada’s oil and gas industry, offering essential training and safety resources. Their existing website limited content control for internal teams and made publishing slow and difficult.
For users, confusing navigation and disorganized content made it hard to find courses or access program information. This reduced engagement and led to frequent customer service requests for tasks like password resets and locating certifications.

As the sole designer on this project, I led the end-to-end design process for both the public website and the authenticated user portals. I worked closely with stakeholders to understand business goals and internal challenges, and conducted two rounds of user research.
With ESC’s diverse audience of students, instructors, and auditors in mind, I restructured the information architecture and designed scalable, content-rich components that supported their extensive resource library. I also applied ESC’s refreshed brand identity to the final designs and worked with the team to ensure components would be used in ways that maintain clarity and reduce cognitive load.

The redesigned information architecture and user flows were met with overwhelmingly positive feedback during usability testing. Over 85% of users said it was significantly easier to find what they needed and felt more guided through their tasks, whether browsing courses or accessing certifications.
Beyond improving the user experience, the project also helped align ESC’s wide group of stakeholders on a unified vision for their digital presence. It laid the groundwork for long-term success by introducing content best practices and empowering the team to manage the site effectively over time.
